John Strucker

John Strucker, Ed.D., currently works as a consultant for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts designing and facilitating online courses for adult literacy teachers. Prior to that, he worked at EDC to create reading assessments for out-of-school youth in developing countries. And, before that, he managed projects for World Education Inc. in the areas of teacher education and ESL literacy. 

From 1996 to 2007 he was a research associate at the National Center for the Study of Adult Literacy and Learning where he directed three large-scale studies of adult learners’ strengths and needs in reading. During that time, he was also a Lecturer in Education at the Harvard Graduate School of Education and director of the Harvard Adult Literacy Lab. Before completing his doctorate, he taught adult basic education for the City of Cambridge, MA, for 11 years. 

He has served as an adult literacy and assessment consultant for UNESCO, the US ED Office of Career, Technical, and Adult Education, US ED IES, the National Institute for Literacy, the National Academy of Sciences, ETS, Statistics Canada, and education departments in eight U.S. states.
